Sophie Turner Drops Child Abduction Charges Against Joe Jonas After Custody Agreement

A judge in New York dismissed a child kidnapping lawsuit filed on Wednesday in September by Sophie Turner, in which the Game of Thrones alum had her two young daughters with her estranged husband, Joe Jonas, returned to the UK from the United States.

According to court documents obtained by People, a federal judge for the Southern District of New York agreed to dismiss the “wrongful miscarriage” claim after Turner and Jonas amicably signed a consent plan approved by a British court judge last week.

The initial lawsuit was reportedly filed just weeks after the former couple announced plans to divorce. Turner alleged at the time that her children had spent the entire summer in the US with Jonas and were not given her previously agreed return to the UK.

The lawsuit claims Jonas instead officially filed for divorce and withheld his children’s passports. The singer reportedly claimed through his representatives at the time that returning the passports so their children could leave the country would violate a Florida court order where the divorce was filed.

The order purportedly prohibits both parties from relocating the children without consent.

However, this custody battle became less contentious within days, when Turner and Jonas reached a temporary agreement on September 25 to keep their children in New York City. The former couple then finalized a temporary custody agreement on October 10.

“After productive and successful mediation, we agreed that the children will spend equal time in loving homes in the US and the UK,” the former couple told People in a statement at the time. “We hope to be good parents.”

Wednesday’s dismissal follows an October “parenting plan” signed by both parties and their peace agreement order approved last week. The duo had been together for seven years before splitting.

They were first romantically linked in 2016 when Jonas toured the UK. He proposed to Turner the following year and married in a surprise ceremony in Las Vegas that was broadcast live on social media after the 2019 Billboard Music Awards.

Their children, Will and Delphine, were born in the US in 2020 and 2022 with dual US and UK citizenship. Five months after moving to England in April 2023, when Turner claims Jonas agreed to buy a house together, the two announced their split.

“After four wonderful years of marriage, we have decided to end our marriage amicably,” they wrote at the time. “There are a lot of speculative narratives as to why, but this was actually a mutual decision, and we really hope everyone can respect our… privacy.”
