Sofia Vergara revealed the reason she and Joe Manganiello decided to divorce.
The Emmy winner got candid about what led to the end of her seven-year marriage while speaking with El País, a Spanish-language daily newspaper in Spain, in an interview published last week. She and Joe announced their divorce in a joint statement last summer.
Opening up about her personal life, the Modern Family star said: “I just got divorced from my second husband, who I was with for 10 years.”
“My marriage broke up because my husband was younger,” the 51-year-old actor said of Joe, 47. “He wants to have children and I don’t want to be an old mother.
“I feel this is unfair to the baby. I respect whoever does it, but it’s not for me anymore.”
Sofia, who gave birth to her first and only child, Manolo Gonzalez Vergara, in 1991, continued: “I had a son at 19, who is now 32, and I was ready to be a grandmother, not a mother.”Manganiello and Vergara announced their divorce last summer after seven years of marriage.
Sofia then went on to say that if her next romantic partner wants children, “he will have to come up with (his own) children.”
“I was almost entering menopause; it’s a natural thing,” he said. “When my son becomes a father, let him bring the baby to me for a while and then I will give him back and get on with my life; that’s what I have to do.”
Last week, the Griselda actor admitted he was surprised by the media response to his recent split.
“I have to say that the press has been very respectful and very kind, and I think they will create more things. You know, that’s usually how it is,” he told CBS Sunday Morning. “I was surprised they just told it like it was, and that was it. You know, I’ve moved on.”
