Rishi Sunak recorded a bizarre video message for Nigel Farage as part of a bid to improve his election chances.
The Conservative Party advertised “personalized video messages” from the prime minister on Facebook.
After registering on a website and providing your name and where you are from, you will be sent a video recording of the prime minister.
The Guido Fawkes website filled out the form on behalf of former Ukip boss Nigel Farage, a fierce critic of Sunak’s record on immigration.
In the resulting video, published on YouTube, Sunak said: “Hi Nigel. I just wanted to take a moment to wish you a Happy New Year.
“Now, like you, I think immigration levels are too high, and I have taken more action than any prime minister to do something about this.
“We are implementing the harshest laws to stop these boats and send illegal migrants straight back abroad.
“As a result of the measures we have taken, more than a third of boat crossings have decreased. Elsewhere in the world, the figure has increased by 80%.
“And we also reduced legal migration, preventing migrants undercutting British workers and ending the use of cheaper labor from overseas.
“This progress is only possible because of the long-term decisions we are taking to build a brighter future for everyone across the country.”
The video then shows a mock newspaper called ‘The Daily Farage’, with a front page headline stating: “We deliver the goods to Dover.”
Sunak is also shown sitting in his kitchen with a laptop screen reading: “To-do list: Nigel’s priorities.”
The PM ended his speech by saying: “Whether I’m working in Downing Street or at home in Yorkshire, I’ll deliver for you.”
Farage told Guido Fawkes: “I’m pleased Rishi has said he has finally taken my concerns seriously, but I think it will take more than just a personalized video message to Stop the Boats.”
The video was met with skepticism by X (formerly Twitter) users, many of whom incorrectly assumed it was an AI spoof.
The worst communications team in modern British history strikes again. This makes Theresa May look like Mrs Charisma.
The Tories must launch their manifesto now! Giving them something to do this year. Then he can say “if you like what I do, choose me to get this job done”.
