The Countess of Wessex re-wore a favourite blue patterned dress as she joined her husband Prince Edward at the Commonwealth Games on Friday. 

Sophie, 57, donned a £795 frock from royal-approved designer Peter Pilotto to take in the action across a number of sporting events. 

The couple started off with a trip to the gymnastics arena before taking their seats for a rugby sevens match. 

Prince Edward put on a particularly animated display, holding his head in his hands as he struggled to watch.

Not wanting to miss a moment, Sophie whipped out her phone to take a photo of the action on the pitch. 

Last night Prince Edward and his wife joined Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall at the opening ceremony. 

Senior royals are representing the Queen at the Commonwealth Games as she continues to take a step back from royal duties. The monarch, 96, remains in residence in her Scottish home of Balmoral, in Aberdeenshire.

Prince Charles stood in for his mother at last night’s spectacular opening ceremony and was greeted by cheers as he drove into the stadium in an Aston Martin. 

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will make an appearance at the Games next week.

Today it is the turn of Sophie Wessex, one of the Queen’s confidantes and a member of Her Majesty’s inner circle. 

The mother-of-two looked elegant in her marine blue midi dress which features capped sleeves and a flattering band under the bust. 

Sophie has previously worn the dress to Wimbledon. Princess Diana’s niece owns the same frock. 

The Countess of Wessex kept her accessories simple for today’s outing, choosing to pair the dress with a pair of tan wedges and a small handbag.

The 2022 Commonwealth Games got underway in Birmingham on Thursday evening with an opening ceremony that has been dubbed ‘wacky and wonderful’. 

Sophie Wessex joined her husband, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall to watch the spectacle from a box. She greeted her brother-in-law with a kiss on the cheek.
