‘We were once turned down for a mortgage there when we were trying to buy our first house. It became available and we negotiated with the bank. We got it for an amazing price. They needed to unload it,’ Joel explained to Burlington Free Press.

The outside is made out of pure Vermont marble, while marble from Tennessee and Italy was used on the interiors.

‘The Vermont quarry was owned by an Italian quarry that also owned a quarry in Tennessee,’ Joel explained. ‘The bank imported all these different marbles during the Depression because they had the money.

‘The details they used back then were incredible. The bank didn’t really appreciate all the details. They painted over wood doors and paneling. We stripped that back down. It’s beautiful.’

The bank is also adjacent to two beautiful new parks and a local theater, not to mention its proximity to New York City, Albany, and Boston – which are all within a few hours driving.

‘We’re looking for somebody who has an existing business and wants to live upstairs,’ Joel told Burlington Free Press. ‘It’s a very unique space, waiting for the right buyer, who has an idea what the next iteration of the bank will be.’
