Hind Rajab, 6-Year-Old Gaza Boy Who Talked About His Fears Over the Phone to Rescue Team, Found Dead

Hind Rajab, a 6-year-old child in Gaza who pleaded by telephone to be rescued from a crushed car in which he was surrounded by his dead relatives, was found dead with them nearly two weeks later, according to his family and Palestinians. Red Crescent Society.

Hind’s body was found in the Tel al-Hawa section of Gaza City on Saturday after Israeli troops withdrew from the area. The bombed remains of the ambulance sent to rescue him were found nearby.

Hind called the Palestine Red Crescent Society for about three hours on January 29 and desperately pleaded for help, the agency said.

He reportedly fled the city with his aunt, uncle and cousin when they were caught in the crossfire. It was Layan Hamadeh, Hind’s 15-year-old cousin, who initially called the Red Crescent for help until it fell silent.

The Red Crescent shares audio of children trapped on social media, horrifying listeners around the world.

“They shot at us. The tank is next to me,” Layan said in the audio released by the agency.

“Come and take me, will you come and take me?” Hind is heard saying then. “I am very afraid. Please come. Please call someone to come and take me.”

Hind finally said that it was getting dark, and he was afraid of the dark.

The Red Crescent said the agency felt safe enough to send an ambulance four hours after receiving the call, according to Reuters. But the agency lost contact with the ambulance, leaving the young girl’s fate uncertain until Saturday.

A Red Crescent spokesman told the BBC that ambulance crews caught a glimpse of Hind before gunshots were heard on the route.

“Hind and everyone in the car became martyrs,” Baha Hamada, his grandfather, told Agence France-Presse, adding that the rest of the family were finally able to reach the area as Israeli troops withdrew around dawn.

Hind’s mother, Wissam Hamada, blamed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Joe Biden for her death, AFP said.

“I will ask before God on Judgment Day who heard my daughter’s cries for help but did not save her,” the mother told AFP.

The Red Crescent alleged “deliberate targeting” by Israeli forces, “resulting in the killing of our colleagues Yusuf Al-Zeino and Ahmed Al-Madhoun, who were only a few meters away from the Hind child.”

Talk News has contacted the Israeli army for comment.

According to the Hamas-run Health Ministry, Israel’s military campaign in the Gaza Strip has killed more than 28,000 people since the militant group’s Oct. 7 attack on Israeli civilians, which reportedly killed around 1,200 people and sparked war. In the last month, around 10,000 of the victims killed in Gaza were estimated to be under 18 years old.

Some 1.5 million people are believed to have taken refuge in the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, having received no warning from Netanyahu to “evacuate.” With the Mediterranean Sea to the west, Israel to the north and east, and a reluctant Egypt to the south, it was unclear where they would go.
