America Ferrera is opening up about the moment she found out she had been nominated for her first Oscar – and some of the famous friends who were quick to congratulate her.
The former Ugly Betty star has been nominated for Best Supporting Actress thanks to her standout performance in Barbie, and spoke to Variety about what the moment was like when she first found out.
“There were times where I wasn’t sure if I was making it up,” he admits. “And then my phone started blowing up so I thought I must have heard it right.”
First came the call from her publicist, followed by her husband, after which America received a star-studded group call.
She revealed that shortly after the nominations were announced, her former Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants co-stars, Alexis Bledel, Blake Lively and Amber Tamblyn, reached out via FaceTime.
“It was so cute and funny and emotional and so much fun for my sister to celebrate and defend,” America enthuses.
“It is these women that I have had the honor of growing up with in this industry and being loved and encouraged and supported by them. What we all do for each other. It was amazing, and a blessing in my life.”

America’s Oscar nomination is one of eight for Barbie, including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor for Ryan Gosling and Best Adapted Screenplay for Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach.
